I was born in West Yorkshire, England. When I was 30, I moved to America for my husband's work. A homemaker with two boys, I also volunteered in my kids' school, in the soup kitchen at my church, and at Manna, preparing food for homebound AIDS/HIV patients. At 50, I went back to school, and ten years later I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from the University of Pennsylvania. I have knowledge of French, Spanish, Italian, and German. After graduation, I took part in two missions to Haiti, translating doctors' questions into French so that they could be transcribed into Creole for the older patients. It was a life-altering experience.
I enjoy laughing, cooking, knitting, crochet, needlepoint, gardening, reading, theater, and travel. My favorite place is still England. I guess I am biased!
I joined the YMCA pool in 2006, where I met my American “family.” It was a red-letter day, given that my extended family are all in the U.K. I was, and still am, nurtured there in mind, body, and spirit. My favorite title now is “Nannan” or “Millie.” My favorite companion is Rupert, my Shih Tzu. My latest heartthrob is Governor Cuomo – during early 2020 at least! I inherited my favorite quote from my beloved granny – “Count your blessings” – and I do.
