Ruth Pulwer, 1925-2020. Ruth wrote this biography for the pool project a few months before her death.
All my life I loved to travel. When I was 39, I took my three children across the country and back. We camped in state parks and in parking lots. We slept in the car. We put the station wagon back seat down and slept in the back. We also visited friends along the way. It was just me and the three children. We went to California taking the southern route. We then headed up the Pacific Highway. It was beautiful. Then back across the continent on the northern route. It was an adventure. It was fun. I just love to see the wonderful things in this world.
I worked for a travel agent till my husband encouraged me to start my own business. He found a second floor office in Narberth and we put up the sign "Penn Valley Travel." It was a success and I ran it for ten years. I had employees and a steady group of customers. When I closed the business, many of my customers would keep calling me to book their trips so I worked just enough. It was good.
Being in the business I was able to travel all over. The trips were wonderful. I went to Italy, Hawaii, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires. My husband had been in New Guinea during the war. We both took a great trip to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and of course New Guinea. We took side trips to Ayers Rock and the Great Barrier Reef, where we took a ride in a glass bottom boat and saw amazing fish. It was a trip of a lifetime. Because I was a travel agent we got upgraded on all the flights.
It is my passion to see the beauty of the world.
I also did some volunteer work as president of the women's synagogue committee and the local Hadassah group.
I mentioned my three children, a son and two daughters. They have grown up to be college educated, well able to work and succeed. I am very pleased with my family. They treat me so well and include me in everything. I have 11 grandchildren. Many weddings and events to attend. Then the next generation: 18 great grandchildren. I cannot keep track of the birthdays and names sometimes.
They are not quite done, still needing color correction and sound design, but we have posted them now, as works-in-progress, to honor our friend and her wonderful life.
