I was born in Bogotá, Colombia. I immigrated to the United States with my parents and sisters in the mid-1960s, settling in New York City. I attended and graduated from Pace University with a degree in nursing. As a nurse, I worked in the medical ICU and medical oncology departments. I have been married to my husband Joel for four decades, and we have three grown children.
